10 Minute Mile Treadmill Speed
A 10:00 mile is the default easy jog on most US treadmills because it lands on a round 6.0. Use it when the plan says steady, not when it says 5K pace.
Easy-run neighbors
Load a recovery jog or a slightly quicker steady run.
If you hold 10:00
Beginner 5Ks often live near this belt speed. Half marathon at 10:00 is a long indoor day, not an easy jog.
| Distance | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 mile | 10:00 | Round 6.0 mph |
| 1 km | 6:13 | About 9.7 km/h |
| 5K | 31:04 | Typical first 5K target band |
| 10K | 1:02:08 | Long for a treadmill unless you break it up |
| Half marathon | 2:11:06 | Not an easy-run workout |
Incline at easy pace
At 6.0 mph, the 1% incline rule is less useful: 6 mph sits below the researched range in Jones and Doust (1996). Air drag is small at this speed, so leaving the belt at 0% is a fair outdoor match for many easy runs. Use incline here as hill work, not as a default correction.
The 1% outdoor-match finding was measured on faster running. Do not copy tempo-run incline advice onto a 10:00 jog.

FAQ
What speed is a 10 minute mile on the treadmill?
6.0 mph. Metric equivalent is about 9.7 km/h, or 6:13 per kilometer.
Is a 10:00 mile walking or running?
Running for most adults. Brisk walking is nearer 4.0 mph (15:00/mi). If 6.0 feels like a shuffle, you may be walking; that is still a valid easy day.
Why skip 1% at 6.0 mph?
The outdoor-match study was done at faster speeds. At an easy 6.0, 1% adds hill work you may not want on a recovery day.
What 10K time does 6.0 mph produce?
About 1:02:08 if you never change speed. Most people will mix walking or slow the belt on a treadmill 10K.
